All Masters have asked that everything has to be 'laid down', forsaken - conditioning, knowledge, science, religion, self. Actually, the most important, perhaps the only potent thing, is the idea that one lives his own life, whereas actually one's life is being lived.
We do not choose to be born, choose to grow old, choose to be ill, or choose to die. How then can one imagine that we choose anything in between?
If we can 'lay down' our stupid and arrogant notion that we live our own lives volition-ally, we shall have let go of everything all at once, en bloc.
'Horizontally', we can have no freedom whatsoever. 'Vertically', there is neither freedom nor non-freedom.
